mock up of front cover and double page spread

This is my first mock up of my music magazine. I chose the 'Indie' genre for my magazine as there are not yet many available music magazines that are of this genre therefore I would be doing something different. The competition my magazine would be up against, in terms of Q and the  NME, would be softer as the genre doesn't clash harshly.

I am quite happy with how my contents turned out in terms of the set out and arrangement of images and text. I struggled to find a place to fit 'inside amplify' thus my reasoning for separating the phrase across the page. I chose to have it coloured orange to tie it in with the front cover and contents page as it is a part of the house style.

The double page spread I did find to fall under the conventions of a typical fashion magazine and therefore carrying out the same style for my final double page spread would have me failing to follow the correct conventions.

There weren't many good examples of existing music magazine/s with the same genre as mine therefore it was difficult to get inspiration from somewhere.

This is the start of my research into existing magazines. To gain the best possible understanding of how one is constructed I have decided to annotate the different sections of a music magazine front cover and explain them. I also continued to do this with a double page spread and contents page.

Breif

To design a front cover, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and
text used must be original, a minimum of four images must be used.

Evaluation

What have you learnt from completing this task?
- I have learnt to aviod using patterns within the main image as it makes it difficult when adding tag lines. Reason for this is that the text cannot be read over the patterns on the notebooks the model is holding.
- I have also learned when taking the picture of the main image to start on a plain background if possible as it makes it easier to erase. When i was taking my picture the model was stood against a brick background.

How have you used technology?
- I have used a camera to take essention shots of my model to use as my main image. To transfer this onto the computor i had to use an sd card and photoshop was used for the editing of the main image.

What conventions have you used and why?
- I have used the main image convention, every magazine has a main image and this helps engage the audience into wanting to buy the product.
- Mast head. Mine i chose to use the word 'ATTAIN' and this i believe is suitable as it is relevant to education if you are to 'attain' you are to succeed in achieving.
- Tag lines. I used this but not many as i was struggling to find a place to put them where you are still able to read the text- due to the patterns on the notebooks. I included the ones i could as these help sell the magazine and act as a blurb to whats to be inside.
- Date, price, web adress and barcode. I used these as they are all essential information when buying the product and without the barcode it would be impossible for supermarkets to sell the magazine.

What would you change if you were to do this task again?
- I would have my model holding plain notebooks/textbooks therefore i would be able to place my tag lines on the frront cover without great difficulty.
